I usually don't admit to this because people tend to look at me funny when I do, but I love reading true crime novels. They intrigue me and horrify me at the same time. I guess part of me feels that if I know enough about those kind of monsters in our midst, maybe I'll recognize the signs if I ever come across someone like that. Ann Rule is my favorite true crime author.

For non fiction it is occult and metaphysical books and researches dealing with ancient cultures, myths and legends. This would include writers such as Andrew Collins and Jimmy Lee Shreeve. In the fiction area I like all sorts of horror and scifi types of books. I like Peter Straub, Dean Koontz, Poppy Z. Brite some times. I love Richard Matheson but have only read Maxie and have I Am Legend but haven't read it yet and I use to be an Anne Rice fan.

I am Legend (the short story, not the movie) was outstanding. I love Dean Koontz too. Anne Rule was one of my Grandmother's favored authors in her life. She loved true crime. I prefer still Koontz, and King, but classic Stephen King, in the days of Cujo, and "It".

I like both of them and I think I have seen all the adaptations. The book is small and I guess it could be called a short story technically. I have read numerous other things. I liked Carl Sagan's "Contact" which I read long before it was made into a movie but then I was a charter member of his Planetary Society. I only stayed in for a year because I was unable to participate in some of his other activities and just had other interests. Stephen King's "It" scared me, lol and the book is soooo thick. I have it somewhere. I don't always like his books. I liked both the book and movie called "Entity." I am still researching things on that case. I mentioned Anne Rice and I was not referring to her "Vampire Chronicals" which I liked but my interest was in the "Witching Hour" and her Mayfair witch series.

I used to be into horror and have read Steven King and Dean R. Koontz (before he took the "R." out) but I went through a big Clive Barker phase. Although I have to say that man has some twisted stuff roaming around in his head...hahaha...but seriously Clive Barker's books really scared me!!!

Anything that has been written. I feel like even those books that I will never read again, still need to be read. I will read something once, if i like it.. I will read it again.

The books that i don't like, at times will give me insight as to how I should or should not write something,

Why is that? Just curious and its sort of amusing. I always wondered how they come up with what is good and what is not good. I have seen people talk about books in reviews on amazon.com and you will see one person give five stars and rave reviews and someone else comes along and gives one star and goes off on how unorganized the book is and what a lousy writer the author is and on and on. I feel what is good other than grammatically correct is a matter of taste and knowing your market and what people are buying at the time. I pay little heed to the critics other than giving me insight into the contents of the book. It's really touchy if you write something that entails religion. If you are interested in myths, legends and ancient cultures like I am you run head long into religious beliefs and if you write anything that states certain beliefs just aren't factual you will get called either a "New Ager" or just plain nuts and ill informed even if the person has done years of studies. I have found out in my researches that very often the so-called scholars don't agree and sometimes seem to stick with a theory that should have been changed because they have been teaching something for years and they are hard to get to revise earlier thoughts. This is very close to the attitude of medical professionals.

When I am reading something I have to feel as though I am being engaged in a relationship with the other. It also depends on my mood at the time, as well.
